Both attorneys have a vast experience with family-based petitions, naturalization, sports immigration, removal proceedings, appellate practice, consular processing, and federal litigation against the government among other fields of the immigration and nationality laws.
If there is a right, there is a way! Yes, that is Reggie Smith in these pictures (right and bottom) in front of the U.S. Supreme Court (2014). Reggie Smith migrated from Brazil to the United States in December 2002. Due to her Christian views, Reggie strongly believes in no such thing as coincidence, but God-incidence, God's will. Reggie is respectful and passionate about the pursuit of justice, and is known for her great sense of humor.
Once in the United States, with no English, Reggie's career changed from successful Brazilian attorney TO hotel housekeeper, bank teller, bank customer service, assistant branch manager, and prior to being admitted to a law school in the United States, she worked at the Florida Judicial Circuit as Probate, Juvenile, and Mental Health case manager. From Dec. 2016 to recent, Reggie ran her solo law practice as an immigration lawyer, now she united her legal knowledge as a law partner of Bonnie Smerdon.
Reggie Smith knows firsthand what it is to be an immigrant and the language barriers as such in the United States. Base on her experience, Reggie's primary advice to her client-immigrants is to learn English. She believes in a "Can Do Attitude!"
Reggie is a legal professional with Christian values.
Reggie graduated from Moacyr Sreder Bastos law school in Brazil in 1999 and from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida, in 2015. She is a licensed attorney by the Florida Bar and the Brazilian Bar, Section of Rio de Janeiro. She holds active membership to Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity, Intl., The Federalist Society, American Immigration Association Lawyers Association (AILA) among others.
Before becoming a licensed attorney in the United States, Reggie has been through the immigration process to obtain her legal status from a non-immigrant to a green card-holder. Thinking that the immigration procedure was only to fill forms, she then decided to apply for citizenship on her own, and it was denied. Thus, what seemed to be a simple form, was not simple after all. Reggie was naive in not hiring an immigration attorney.
After so many challenges, disappointment,, and failures, she became resilient and her perseverance led her to self-taught and learn English. She improved her English, attended law school in the United States and learned the laws of this wonderful country. It was not an easy task.
Reggie wears many hats, she is a proud wife, a lawyer, a diver, a student pilot, and a sailor.
" I need to practice an area of law that is so intense and complex that would slow me down and makes me a better lawyer. "
